Congratulations, Class of 2012! May 11, 2012 Commencement Weekend Pomp and Celebration Brevard College’s 2012 Commencement activities begin today, with approximately 122 seniors expected to graduate during the Col lege’s 159th Commencement Exercise. Special events for families and friends will begin at 3 p.m. today with a creekside recep tion beside the College’s Porter Center for Performing Arts. The College’s Baccalaureate and Hooding Ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. inside the Porter Center’s Concert Hall. A spe cial picnic for graduates and their families will follow the service at 6 p.m. along the creek and lawn outside of the Porter Center. Commencement day activities will begin to morrow morning with a class photo of graduates on the steps of the J.A. Jones Library at 8:30 a.m. The 2012 Commencement Exercises will begin at 10 a.m. in the College’s Betty Neale Academic Quadrangle. As is a tradition at Brevard College, the ceremony will feature two speakers from the graduating class: Danielle Burch, an art major from Boiling Springs, and Jarred Fisher, a health science studies major from Johannesburg, South Africa. A reception will follow on the lawn of Taylor and Green halls. More information can be found inside, includ ing a list of graduation candidates on page 2 and a schedule of events on page 3. Two faculty members and 11 students wili foiiow the Cape Fear River neariy 300 miies from its source to the Atiantic Ocean. VOR to take on Cape Fear River A group of Brevard College students and professors will leave Sunday for an adventure of a lifetime. The College’s Voice of the Rivers team, which consists of two faculty members and 11 students, will embark on a nearly 300-mile kayak and canoe expedition that will follow the Cape Fear watershed from its northwest- most source, at the headwaters down the Haw River and Cape Fear River, to Bald Head Island, where the Cape Fear River meets the Atlantic Ocean. As the team paddles down the river, each participant will study, reflect on, and share the experience through the unique lens of their in dividual discipline. During the trip. Associate Professor of Recreation, Wilderness Leader ship and Experiential Education Clyde Carter and Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Amie Scheidegger will teach courses on river expeditions and environmental crime.
